Angel of Hope
On April 27, 2001, my brother Mark, at age 46, was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma, his
prognosis was bleak. As with any loved one's diagnosis of cancer, this news devastated our very
close-knit family.
I felt a strong need to make something that would unite us all with hope and strength. In the woods
near my house there is a special quiet place that soothes my soul and gives me peace. I went there with
my sketchbook and within minutes created an angel. I felt my spirit begin to strengthen with the
belief of Mark beating this awful disease. Back in my studio, I crafted this design in silver pendants
and pins to be tangible symbols of hope for my family.
After a long treatment of chemotherapy, Mark was found to be in complete remission. He beat the odds
and has been a cancer survivor for over 6 years now.
I continue to produce these angels to give thanks for the miracle that has blessed my family and to
share this hope with others.
